   -  Almost half of the Native Americans live on federal reservations. The majority of the reservations are situated west of the Mississippi River. 
2. What are some of the social challenges faced by Native Americans? List what you believe can be the possible causes of these challenges.
   - Some of the social challenges faced by Native Americans are unemployment, poverty, alcoholism and drug abuse, high rates of diabetes and heart disease. I think that the possible causes of these challenges can be bad living conditions, the oppression and poverty.

Once upon a time there was a girl called Sara Andersson. Sara lived in New York, and she could spoke both English and Spanish. May 24th she wrote her first book, it's name was "The Road Not Taken". In the book she wrote about the Great War and all the different roads it led to.

The only way forward

Exam November 2014
Task 2A Use the information in the preparation material to create a text in which you discuss the

statement “Modern digital technology is a blessing and the only way forward”.

In this task I am going to discuss the statement “Modern digital technology is a blessing and the only way forward”.

My opinion about this statement is that most of the digital technology makes different things much faster and easier to do. Therefore it may be the only way forward. It can help to communicate all over the world, and then countries can help each other and cooperate. If the technology stops at this stage, we will probably just end up standing at the same place and not getting forward, so I think it’s important with new technology.

Although if the modern digital technology is the only way forward it’s scary to think about how the world is going to develop. Think about the last ten years. The technology has become big just by ten years. In 2005 the cellphones were just used when you needed to call or text someone. You could use the internet, but it was very expensive and slow. Maybe you had some games you could play, but the phones were definitely not used as much as today.

We use our phones more and more, it becomes easier, cheaper and faster. In today’s society everyone uses their phones all the time. We can almost do everything by using smartphones. We can search for facts, we can communicate, use social medias or even order clothes.
The negative side about develop of the technology is that we use less time together, playing, talking and having fun. If we talk today it’s usually over the internet and not in real life. The internet is everywhere today and you can do whatever you want with it.

It’s always something new coming up, and that's what makes us move forward.

Film: Disconnect

a) a brief introduction to what the film is about

- The film is about different stories where the internet has a central role. The different stories showed how trust can be used to something negative. It's a moving film.

One of the stories was a boy who sent a picture of himself naked to someone he talked to over the internet. The person he sent it to was someone who wanted to joke with him and the picture was sent to the whole school. He tried to kill himself. 

Another story was a woman who chatted with a man. The woman got hacked and the man took all her money. 

b) Your opinion about the issues presented in the film - are there any familiar elements?

- My opinion about the issues presented in the film is that it's important and necessary to know that things like that really happens. Jokes and things someone does just for fun really can hurt others. The internet is something many people use and therefore it's important to think about some consequences.
Most of people today uses the internet very much. I use it a lot every day. 

c) Did you like the film? Why/why not?

- Yes I liked the film because it was touching. The issues was something most people can relate to. 

d) Which part of the film made an impression on you? 

- The part of the film that made an impression on me was the last part. I think it was touching when everything went so wrong. 

Global Issues - Social Media and the Internet

The texts describes how the technology has changed the last years and how it develop the society. The technology has helped us to communicate much easier.
I agree to what the texts says about that the technology has changed the society. They say that the technology maybe has became a bit too important to the world.
At school we use the technology for example to write blogs, to do tasks at the internet or to search facts. At home I use the technology to social media and to communicate with friends.

Events in American History

1. Do you think the colonies had good reason to declare Independence? Why?
- I think that if I were a colonist I wouldn't like to pay taxes that just ended in England's "pocket" and didn't help to upgrade things in the society. That's one of the reasons I think the colonies has a good reason to declare independence.  

2. Should one country be able to colonize another? When should a colony be granted Independence?
- One country should  be able to colonize another only if it is the best for both parts. If the colony wants independence and they're ready to "stand on their own legs" they should be granted independence. 

3. The Bill of Rights guarantees Americans "the right to bear arms". Many Americans still feel this is important for personal safety and in case they need to revolt  against their own government, They argue that the Minutemen and the local militias only won the fight for Independence because they had firearms.
What do you think?
Should everyone have the right to bear arms? All kinds of arms?
- I think that if everyone should have the right to bear arms there should be some strict rules and not all kinds of weapons should be allowed. Not all people will use the weapons just for personal safety and that's why the question is difficult. 

4. If you were to present your nation's history in the same way as above, which events would you choose? Why?
- The years Norway was in a union with Denmark and Sweden, because it affected Norway. 
- 1814, the year Norway got it's own Constitution. 

Immigrants

- Why did people leave Europe to go to America in the late 1800s? What was their 'American Dream'?

The Europeans including the Norwegians immigrated to The United States by the promise of free land. Many people were tempted by the opportunity to get a better life. If the immigrants were farming the land, they were granted around 600 acres of soil and a farm much bigger and better than any farm in their native land.
The immigrants “American Dream” was to get a better life by getting a bigger farm with more acres of fertile soil.
The immigration was a result of many push and pull factors.  Some main push factors that drove the immigrants from their country was religious persecution, poverty and political oppression. Some pull factors that attracted the immigrants to the U.S. was civil rights, freedom of expression, religion and a good economic opportunity.
The Irish immigrants were pushed from their country because of a bad potato breeding with an illness.  The potatoes were quite important for the Irish people, therefore many died and some decided to move.

This is the quote I chose "Illusion is the first of all pleasures." its written by Oscar Wilde.

My interpretation of the quote is that you will always make an illusion of what you really want or wishes for before you gets it. Therefore your illusion becomes your first of all pleasures.

Road Trip

My friend Marte and I have been at a road trip. We went to the UK, which was amazing. We started our trip in Bristol, a city East in England. We hired our beautiful car that we drove through the whole trip.

It matched with colours inside and outside the car.

Bristol was a beautiful city both in day-time and night-time. Luckily for us the weather was great when we stayed there. We slept two nights in the city all together before we started at our real roadtrip.

We found a very nice hotel the first day which we stayed at both nights. It had a SPA which we were really excited about and also tried out the first day. Other than that we explored the city a bit, by walking in the streets. At the evening we ate dinner at the restaurant in the hotel.
The second day we spent in a shopping centre, when we came back to the hotel we did some exercising at the fitness room. We decided to eat dinner at a restaurant this evening. On our way to find an interesting restaurant, we saw the Clifton suspension bridge lighted up. I just had to take a picture:

We ended up at a restaurant called “Glassboat”, and it was literally a restaurant in a boat were every wall was made out of glass. It was so nice.

The third day we both took a SPA treatment at the morning before we packed our suitcases and started driving. We can call this an exclusive start at a roadtrip.
We started driving towards a place called Amesbury, the reason why we chose this place is because of the Stonehnge which we really wanted to see. The driving wasn’t going to smoothly, it was a horrible weather from start to finish and we drove for longer than we needed. The first problem came up when the wind blew up and it started to rain, it rained a lot. We didn’t drive more than around 8 miles before we had to stop because a tree had fallen over the road. We had no idea of what to do, so we waited for a while until we saw that it was a car behind us. A man came towards us and said that he was going to call someone that could help us get the tree out of the way. We thanked him, and about 45 minutes later, the tree got removed and we could continue to drive in the horrible weather. We switched turns at driving, and even though the weather outside the car wasn’t that good, we had a great time inside of the car. At the end this was the route we drove that day:

It didn’t take us 2 hours and 28 minutes but over the double because of the tree-situation and the bad weather we had. When we arrived Amesbury we ordered take-away and slept in the car. The next day were so exciting, we were going to see the Stonehenge. The weather was so much better that day, just some clouds at the sky, otherwise, perfect. Here is a picture of our visit:

We used the most time of that day in the Stonehenge, took a lot of pictures and went for a walk around in the area around the Stonehenge. None of us will forget either the trip the last day or the Stonehenge-visit.
We slept in our car that night as well, before we headed over for London. Driving to London went much smoother than our first stage of the trip. The weather was so much better and we drove virtually straight towards London. This is the route from Amesbury to London:

We arrived in London at 1 pm. The first thing we did was to find a nice hotel were we booked 2 nights. The room was exclusive with two huge beds and a big tub at the bathroom. The view was unique and we could see London eye form our window.

We both took a bath and ate dinner and dessert at the hotel. After the dinner, we went to a cinema and watched a movie called “Dear John”. The movie was very good but sad, we both cried.
The next day was very exciting, we visited London eye and ate macaroons at a nice café in between all of the shopping.

The last day in London we ate breakfast and leaved the hotel quite early because we had a long trip ahead of us to Skegness. Because we wanted to see a bit from the seaside in the UK we decided to drive a detour. The final route ended up like this:

It was a quite long trip, but it was worth it. The east coast in the UK was amazing. The weather wasn’t that good from the start, but after an hour or so it became better.  Outside the car window we could see many people like families, children, adults and old ones. We stopped our car to eat and buy some food for the next days. There was a huge market in Lowestoft, which was more or less halfway from London to Skegness. At the market there was so much to look at, we bought a lot of food and met many nice people. After a good rest, we continued the driving to Skegness. This is one of the beautiful views by the road:

When we finally arrived in Skegness we were both tired. There was a camp where we was supposed to sleep. At the camp we met the owner and he helped us with the caravan we rented for the night. It was a small but cute caravan with enough space for the two of us. Here is a picture from the inside:

We ate some pizza from a snack bar near the camp before we went to sleep.

The next day our plan was to explore the places in Skegness. We had found an amusement park near the camp that we wanted to check out. There was a huge roller coaster we just had to try. It was so much fun and we loved it. Here is a picture we took from the top of the roller coaster:

After a funny day in Skegness, the car was calling and the last part of our road trip was about to start. This time the route was taking us form Skegness to Birmingham and this is how it was planned:

Our plan in Birmingham was to visit the Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park. When we came to our hotel room, we placed the bags there before we went out to eat.  The restaurant was called Golden Dragon and the food was perfect. We ate the best beef I have ever tasted, served with potatoes and some salad. The dessert was even better. Chocolate mousse with cream and strawberry. After that, we took a train to the Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park. In the park we got to see a lot of different animals. It wasn’t the same as a zoo, but we both liked it. We went back to the hotel and talked about our fantastic road trip together before we felt asleep.

The last day was suddenly there and we had to pack our baggage and say goodbye to the beautiful UK. It was sad, but we both agreed that the trip had been perfect and amazing, we couldn’t wish for anything more.

Nazneen’s letter

Dear Nazneen.

When you read this letter you are probably already in London, but I want you to know that I will always be here for you and that I hope you are having a good life. I know it might be difficult because you doesn’t speak English, but I know you’ll make it. Our dad is a great father and I think he has made a good marriage for you. Mum is talking about you all the time and dad is always telling her what a grown-up and good man you’ve got. But if the worst thing happens we are here, we’ll always be.

Only God knows when we will meet again, maybe it takes years or maybe a lifetime, but I hope it is soon. If you have the opportunity to write to me I hope you will make time and tell me everything about London and your new life. How Chanu treats you and what you are doing. If you are making any new friends or if anyone is doing you anything bad, I want to know. When you move I will miss my sister, my best friend and the only person that I can talk to about everything.  One thing is clear and that is if we won’t meet while we live at this planet, God will bring us together in heaven.

The last thing I am asking you to do is to keep this letter with you. And when you need someone in your life you can read it and think about me and that I support you through everything.

Why English can be seen as a world language

The English language has become a universal world language because England is an island and therefore the people in Britain needed to cross oceans to expend their territory. This lead to more English speaking people around in the world.
One-third of the world's books are published in English.
Four-fifths of the electronic communication are in English.
At the moment there are more people speaking English as a second language than as a first language.

Task 1.

What does this quote say that you think is important?

This quote says a lot about the relations between parents and children, friends, and people you like. It sometimes happens that you quarrel with a friend, or as in this example with your parents, but you still love them. Parents have to teach you whats wrong, and whats right, sometimes you maybe don't like it, and you end up being grumpy. You can't always get what ever you want, sometimes your parents have to say "no", and then you maybe "hate" them in a second.

Our trip to Jotunheimen

We started our trip to Jotunheimen Tuesday 26 of August.
First we ran the bus to Helvete, next to Espedalen, where we walked down in some potholes.

After the stop in Helvete we ran the bus to Kvitskriuprestinn where we looked at pyramids of glacial material. Pyramids like that is exceptionally and you can only find them a few places in the world.

We walked to the bus and ran to the camp where we was supposed to sleep in our tents.
Day two started early in the morning with rafting in Sjoa. The weather was nice but the water was still cold. After the rafting we ran to Lom where we visited "Norsk fjellmuseum" and then to Juvashytta where we walked down in an icedrift.

The last event of our trip was to climb the field Galdhøpiggen. Galdhøpiggen is Norway's highest mountain, and it's 2469 meter above sea level. It was a long walk, but it was definitely worth it when we got on top.

Differences

The difference between "I am a Rock" by Paul Simon, "No Man is an Island" by John Donne and "You'll Never Walk Alone" by Roger and Hammerstein.

The biggest difference is between "I am a Rock" and "You'll Never Walk Alone".
"I am a Rock" is like the opposite of "You'll Never Walk Alone" where friendship and the thought of always having someone helping you and supporting you is important. In the text "I am a Rock" the attention is directed to don't get friends because you can get hurt.

"No Man is an Island" is more like "You'll Never Walk Alone".
